FOUNDATION

Term 4 has been very busy for Foundation.

So far this term, the following students have received awards for their nights’ reading.

These students have read for 125 nights this year:

Ahmed Saraf and Ahmed Al Mousawy.

These students have read for 150 nights this year:

Suleyman Muhammad Khan, Sajad Alghazaly and Hamna Bari.

This term we have looked at the letters/sounds “w” and “y”. I can see an overall improvement in our handwriting books. Students need to remember to only use capital letters for the start of sentences and the start of names, otherwise they should be using the correct Victorian Handwriting lowercase letters. If your child wants to practise their sounds at home, we use the soundwaves chant. Refer to the video below and the “Pevan and Sarah” letter videos on the link below.

Writing goals and sight words to practise were sent home for each individual student but as a whole class, we will continue to aim for the following writing goals:

As well as these goals, we will also continue to work on placing our words on the line when we write.

In Maths, our first unit has been subtraction. We have used counters, number lines and calculators to practise taking away and we have looked at both horizontal and vertical subtraction sums. We’ve worked together as a class to complete problem word questions and tried to write our own.

In Science, we are looking at the needs of living things that animals, including humans, need air (oxygen), water, food, shelter and sunlight. Plants need air (carbon dioxide), water, sunlight, space to grow, dirt. We will continue to look at the differences between living and non-living things and how we can classify them into groups.

In Health, we are looking at the food pyramid and why we need healthy food and why we should limit some foods. We have made food pyramids and designed a healthy dinner plate.

In ICT this term, we will continue to work in Microsoft Word, typing our own sentences, changing the font, size and colour, adding boarders and also bringing in images from google.
